People tend to overlook how the mind, body and spirit are intertwined. They spend time and money to improve their outward appearance, when the real answer lies in polishing who they are and feeding their mind and spirit. Those are the most vital investments anyone can make.It is like making a deposit into your personal radiance account.
It may not seem to make sense, but it is a great truth. When you feel good about who you are and have a strong faith and belief system, you will glow from an inner confidence that makes people want what you have. This is not superficial beauty, it is the real deal. It is the kind of beauty that makes life-long friendships and lasting marriages.
We all know people who would not be considered, by media standards, to be a natural beauty but somehow they are so attractive and wonderful to be around. Maybe it is their smile, sense of humor, positive attitude, giving nature or caring spirit that draws you to them.
Or possibly it is that they are comfortable in their own skin, in who they are, and what they believe. Having unwavering faith beyond yourself allows you to not take yourself too seriously. This promotes healthy self-care.
Often just being the smiling face who is cheerful, who recognizes people, and who takes time to ask about others, will promote a positive atmosphere around you. These actions create beautiful traits that radiate from within.
In the long run, your inner beauty is the key to having a full life. However, that does not mean you should neglect your outer appearance. It is important to learn how to balance caring for your appearance in a way that is healthy and not a preoccupation. The body is considered to be a temple, and you only get one. Be a good steward of what you have been given.
When you take care of your body and appearance, you will increase your sense of wellbeing and self-esteem. Always strive to do the best you can with what you have to work with and don’t worry about the rest. Value your self-worth and take steps to care for your health and fitness.
Let your unique spirit shine through into your outer appearance. Look for ways to play up your best assets or unique features and downplay the areas you are less comfortable with.
How you feel about yourself is manifested in your presence, mannerisms, and personal carriage. This in turn will affect people’s reaction to you. In essence you show people how you expect to be treated by how you put yourself together and how you carry yourself.
While it may not be fair, it is to be expected. When you look like a street-walker, people tend to treat you that way. When you look sophisticated and pulled together, people begin to treat you more respectfully.
Not caring for your appearance by being dirty, sloppy or slovenly sends a message to people, that you don’t respect yourself. This influences how they see you and their response to you. People often overlook what message their outer appearance sends to people at first glance.
Beyond first appearances, your inner glow can begin to reshape initial impressions. But why start out at a deficit? Begin to look at how you are presenting yourself daily and think of what message it might be sending.
Strive to make your outward appearance be an accurate reflection of your inward condition. Consider how the five following factors might be viewed on first glance. Also think about what type of person comes to mind with each example. The main areas that tend to color the opinion of others at first glance are:
Hygiene
Clean (teeth, hair, clothes, etc.) or
Dirty (teeth, hair, clothes, etc.)
Impeccable – above & beyond or
Acceptable – just the basics
Grooming
Tidy – time spent on self-care or
Disheveled – sloppy, messy
Well maintained – above & beyond
Poor habits – shows chronic neglect
Clothing
Clean & pressed- Appropriate or
Dirty & tattered – Inappropriate
Mismatched or sloppy
Affluent style or Poverty style
Plays up strength or Shows weaknesses
Size, tone & physical condition’
Takes care of self
or Neglects self-care
Healthy, active – attractive or
Unhealthy, sedentary – unattractive
Nonverbals or subtleties
Eye contact – maintains or avoids
Hand shake – strong or weak
Posture- good or poor
Participation – engages or avoids
Carriage – confident or unsure
By presenting yourself in the best light possible you will naturally boost your confidence. In return people will begin to interact with you based on the new image you are projecting. You get to decide this based on what choices you regularly make in these five areas.
Everyone has the ability to affect this, but it takes attention to detail and realizing that little things do count. Not only do they count, but they will affect your feelings and how others see you. Polish who you are and people will begin to see the gem that has always been there.
