I was just talking to one of my mastermind colleagues Anthony and normally we collaborate and come up great ideas for our perspective network marketing business. However, today he shared something that left me speechless. He said, “I don’t prospect women as business partners for my network marketing opportunity because they don’t want to build a big business.”
After I pulled my mouth up off the floor I thought I would share some things with him. I told him the three reasons you want women in your network marketing business and how to attract the business builders faster than you can imagine. These might be of value for you as well.
1. Women make up 85% of the direct sales and network marketing profession. Why wouldn’t you market to the largest percentage of the industry? If you are not targeting women you are leaving a lot of money on the table and missing an opportunity to make an impact and add value in a lot of peoples lives. You want to make sure you include marketing strategies that authentically speak to women and make them want to do business with you.
2. Women control over 80% of the purchases that are made in the house: Whether it’s a brick-and-mortar store, buying on the Internet or network marketing. The overwhelming majority of purchases are done by women. Simply put, there is power in the purse. So when you are marketing your network marketing product or service you want to take in account what is the benefit for women buying what you have to offer. Then put together specific strategies that speak to them.
For example, in the home improvement sector you have Home Depot and Lowe’s. Both target the home improvement market. However, Lowe’s is specifically designed with women in mind. They have wider aisles, better customer service, and also focus not only on the building of the project, but the furnishing of the final project. In a case study done by Lowe’s these simple changes added to a 30% increase to the bottom line of their company. So what can you do to make your product or service, appealing to women? 3. Women are natural networkers. In the case of long-term success in network marketing it is critical that one develops the ability to call, cultivate and maintain relationships with prospects, customers and business builders. Women in general are naturally hardwired to build relationships and is often an important factor in who they do business with.
Women will almost never do business with you just for the sake of money. They must like you. Business is almost always personal for women and network marketing is no exception. It is very common for women to spread the word of a product or service that they like. Given that network marketing is based in the premise that long-term success also word of mouth it makes sense to create an environment in which you will attract them.
It’s not that women don’t want to build big network marketing or direct sales businesses. The truth is that when it comes to marketing women respond differently to men as it relates to marketing messages. However, it has been proven if you market to women you don’t lose men, but if you’re marketing is solely geared towards men you may turn off women.
Here are some quick tips to make sure you include that 85% of the network marketing profession:
o Create Communities – Some examples for creating great communities are team sites, yahoo groups and conference calls. Women in network marketing like to be involved in groups and be a part of something where relationships are fostered.
o Social Networks – Sites like MySpace, Facebook, Linked In and other prove to be fertile environments where women network and share ideas.
o Sell using stories – Stories are a powerful way to deepen the connection you have with someone
o Create a positive buying experience: Women don’t mind buying they just want it to be a good experience. So the more information you give them the more likely they are to do business with you.
o Sell Authenticity – Women love transparency and being able to see and understand the process and the person. The more you open up about what you do and how you do it the more women will be attracted to your network marketing offer.
If you want to build a solid, large and profitable network marketing business you want to make sure you create a plan to attract women to your business. If you create an environment that gives value and deepens connections you will not only build a business but create raving fans that will spread the word like a good shoe sale.
