It has been observed that the reason the United States of America had so many outstanding leaders in the early part of their country’s history is the fact that, according to the Thomas Jefferson Research Institute, when their founding fathers were growing up, over 90% of the educational thrust was of a moral, ethical, religious nature. And yet, by the 1950’s the percentage of that same educational thrust was so small it could not be measured. It has been stated that this educational thrust of moral, ethical and religious nature is the reason 3 million Americans in 1776 produced Washington, Madison, Jefferson, Hamilton, Adams, etc., and why in the year 2008 we have no one to equal the men of that caliber.
A strong moral education empowers a network marketer to make good ethical choices. However, since few network marketers today have received such a foundation, how do you get started? How do you take something as broad as the Golden Rule and make it a part of your everyday thinking?
Start with this Question: How Would I as a network marketer want to be treated?
I believe that all network marketers, at their core, are very much alike.
Here is the short list of things that I believe all human beings have in common when it comes to how they want to be treated:
As a Network Marketer and Individual I want to be valued
As a Network Marketer and Individual I want to be appreciated
As a Network Marketer and Individual I want to be trusted
As a Network Marketer and Individual I want to be respected
As a Network Marketer and Individual I want to be understood
As a Network Marketer and Individual I do not want others to take advantage of me
Let us examine each one in detail.
As a Network Marketer and Individual I want to be valued
Did you know that in the American marketplace today, 70% of the network marketers who leave their jobs do so because they do not feel valued? There isn’t a network marketer in the world who doesn’t want to be valued by others. Don’t you want others to accept you for who you are and show you through their actions that you matter?
Have you ever been made to feel worthless by another person? Maybe a parent told you that you had nothing to offer. Or a boss said that you or your department was nothing but a liability to the company. Or perhaps you’ve been publicly humiliated. If so, then you know how important it is to be valued by another human being. Encouragement is oxygen for the soul. Deep down, all network marketers want to feel they matter simply for who they are.
Valuing others, not for what they can do but simply because they are human beings, is the foundation of the Golden Rule. If you can learn to think in those terms, then you’ve taken an important step in making the Golden Rule the ethical guideline for your life.
As a Network Marketer and Individual I want to be appreciated
The desire to be loved and valued is perhaps the deepest need of every network marketer. Closely related to that need is our desire to be appreciated for what we can do. Don’t you possess a desire to excel and achieve? And don’t you want to be appreciated for the skill and effort you bring to your organization? It is important to know that what you do matters and builds your self-confidence and self-worth.
Always help network marketers increase their own self-esteem. Develop your skill in making other network marketers feel important. There is hardly a higher compliment you can pay another network marketer than helping him be useful and to find satisfaction in his usefulness.
How can you do that? Begin by letting network marketers know that you appreciate their efforts. Thank them at every opportunity. Give credit to others every time you can. And make it a point to praise network marketers in the presence of those closest to them, such as family members.
