Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade The statistics of an item are improved by upgrading it also known as upping Each upgrade increment provides an increase in linearity of any stat Players can recycle six items at one time to get a gauge of the upgraded component of each item The cost of recycling an item varies depending on its rarity and Upgrade components In Guild Wars 2 an upgrade to an item is a method to increase the stats of your armor and weapons This can be achieved through a number of means such as the use of upgrade components and also increasing an items mark level or rarity Many items can also be reforged to increase their value Upgradeable items are available all over the game both around the world and as rewards for missions They can also be created by players Upgrade components are the primary way to upgrade equipment These are items that slot into equipment Most equipment has upgrade slots and many require a certain level of upgrade Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses while others give an overall bonus There are many types of upgrade elements in the game such as universal upgrades inscriptions and jewels Universal upgrades like gemstones and enchantments can be used in any type of equipment and offer less bonuses than those that are type specific Glyphs are only available on gathering tools item upgrade offer a range of bonuses from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to providing additional crafting materials To upgrade an item click it in your inventory then open the Upgrade window This will display a preview on the right side of the screen showing the expected stats after the upgrade along with any required components or materials The Upgrade button at the bottom will read Blocked if you do not have enough of or The amount of upgrade components needed for a particular item can be seen in the upperright corner of the window for upgrading The cost of an upgrade increases as the level and rarity of the item increase However you can lower the cost by purchasing upgrades from a merchant or trading them with other players Nearly all weapons can be upgraded by an upgrade to a prefix such as an insignia or a rune Many can be upgraded with a suffix upgrade These upgrades alter the name of the item to add an adjective for example Radiant or Minor vigor There are some exceptions however the noninscribable wands the shields and foci from Prophecies and Factions campaigns which are not upgradeable with any kinds of mods in any way Glyphs Glyphs can be used to communicate visual information They are animated to grab the viewers attention and spur curiosity in the brain The animation of glyphs resembles the body language making them more effective in transmitting a linguistic barriercrossing message Glyphs also evoke a sense of familiarity in the brain which increases retention of the message Each glyph can increase the value of a stat by a certain amount This is displayed on the item when you open it in the Glyph Storage This range is the maximum value that a glyph can improve a stat by but not the amount it will actually increase the stat by The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and the quality of the product you are enchanting it to Most upgrade components inserted into items are not able to be replaced or salvaged without removing the gear in question except for legendary equipment and upgrades If you do have an unusable rune or glyph that has not yet been added to your gear you can move it to a different piece equipment by using the upgrade Glyphs context menu on the Glyphs panel This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph You can remove a glyph by using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage tool The item will be destroyed within which it is placed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item with the glyph and its fragments therefore it should not be considered as a loss When you take away an item after adding a glyph the shards from the glyph will vanish You can also add an inscription on your equipment to make it more valuable Deferred Damage for example can store damage and be distributed slowly to the wearer instead of all at once This is helpful for those who take many hits from enemies but dont want to be overwhelmed Reroll tokens Reroll tokens let players alter the affixes they use on their weapons and equipment and can be found in various ways such as in mistery boxes as a rare drop from skulled creatures or even from killing bosses Each reroll token grants players a new random affix which is typically superior to the one they had before Reroll tokens can be used to boost the weapons stats to increase damage or bonuses Rerolled items dont appear in the menu of upgrade options however they are still able to be upgraded These rerolled items are able to be recycled by pressing the upgrade button that alters the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to recycle Recycling an item adds small amount of points to its level gauge This amount is determined by the items rarity and its own level so items with higher levels are more useful to recycle than lowerlevel ones Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to reroll Weapon Traits to upgrade units Rerolls roll the percentage chance of a particular weapon trait if it rolls higher the weapon is upgraded and if it is lower the weapon remains unchanged Weapons can be upgraded up to three times Rerolls are a good option for upgrading an item but players should be aware that it will reduce the overall ilvl the weapon by the number of rerolls used to increase it to the final level This is evident on Rings and Diadems as they have no other options for raising ilvl The system of rerolls has been criticised by players for being too expensive and it would be more fair to let people pay for it using money or a food item which would allow them to change their builds without wasting time and energy However paying for rerolls is not something that the developers would like to incorporate at this point in the games development Theyre planning to include the ability for players to alter their race in the future Leveling There are a variety of ways to level up an upgrade for an item The first is to increase the upgrade amount which increases the value of upgrading any stat The second option is to increase the effect of the upgrade which boosts the damage or healing of a stat The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type Once this is done the new item will retain its iLevel however it will have the upgrade effects of the upgraded item type It is crucial to remember that upgrades can be random Most of the time a higher roll is determined by glyphs However there are times when a greater or special roll can occur In addition the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the type of item so should you upgrade a unique or rare item to a unique type you has a chance to get a higher iLevel Upgrading items can be costly particularly if youre upgrading a piece of equipment from a standard to legendary track The price will depend on the items base iLevel and the amount of upgrade levels it offers Additionally certain upgrade tracks require crests in order to get to the next upgrade level If youre fortunate the upgraded item could get to the top of its upgrade track and unlock an additional effect This will provide a significant increase in the value of the item The bonus effect will change with each upgrade level though In general the effect of upgrading is increased a value of 3 The iLevel can also change depending on the items upgrade path and its base level For example an item that is upgraded from a rare or unique item to an exceptional one will have the chance to gain the enhanced defense of the new base item
