Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade The stats of an item are enhanced by upgrading it which is also known as upping Each upgrade increment increases the stats linearly Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the upgraded components The cost of recycling an item increases according to its rarity and Upgrade components In Guild Wars 2 an upgrade of an item can be a method to increase the stats of your weapon and armor This can be achieved through many different methods that include using upgrade components as well as upgrading an items mark levels or rarity In addition there are many items that can be reforged to boost their stats even more Upgradeable items are available in the game both in the world and as rewards for missions Players can also craft them Upgrade components are the most common method to upgrade equipment These are items that can be inserted into equipment Most equipment comes with upgrade slots and the majority require a certain upgrade level Certain upgrade components provide specific bonuses while others give an overall bonus There are a variety of upgrade components available in the game These include universal upgrades inscriptions and jewels Universal upgrades like gems and enchantments are able to be used in any type of equipment and offer fewer bonuses than those that are type specific Glyphs can be placed in gathering tools and provide a variety of bonuses from increasing the speed of an items gathering to providing additional crafting materials Select the item in your inventory then open the Upgrade window The window will show a preview on the right side of the screen showing the expected stats after the upgrade as well as any necessary components or materials If you dont possess enough of either the Upgrade button will be marked as Blocked The upperright side of the screen shows the amount of upgrade components required to create the specific item The cost of an upgrade increases with the level of upgrade and rarity but can be reduced using many different ways such as purchasing upgrades from a vendor or trading them to other players Most weapons can be improved by adding a prefix such as a rune or an insignia Other weapons can be upgraded with an suffix These upgrades change the name of the item adding an adjective such as Radiant or Minor Vigor There are some exceptions however the noninscribable wands shields and foci from Prophecies and Factions campaigns which cannot be upgraded with any kinds of mods at all Glyphs Glyphs can be used to convey visual information They move to grab the attention of the viewer and entice curiosity The animation of glyphs mimics body language which makes them more effective at conveying messages across language barriers Glyphs also evoke a sense of familiarity in the brain increasing retention of the message Each glyph comes with a range of values it can improve a stat by in the form of an item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use them to enchant an Artifact This is not the actual amount at the glyph can increase the stat but rather the maximum amount by which it is able to do so The value of the glyph will depend on the tier and the quality of the product you are enchanting Most upgrade components inserted into items cant be replaced or salvaged without removing the gear in question unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades If however you have a nonuseful rune or glyph that hasnt yet been applied to your equipment you can transfer it to a different piece of equipment by utilizing the upgrade Glyphs context menu in the Glyphs panel This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph If you want to remove a glyph from an item you must save it using the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool The item on which the glyph is installed will be destroyed however the upgraded item can be salvaged with the glyph shards When you remove an item after adding a glyph the shards of that glyph will disappear You can also put an inscription on your equipment to make it more valuable For example the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and then deal it out slowly rather than all at one time This is beneficial for those who take a lot damage from their enemies but do not want to be overwhelmed Reroll tokens Reroll tokens can be used to change the affixes on weapons and other equipment They can be obtained from many sources including mystery boxes and rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses Each reroll token grants the player a brand new random affix that is usually better than the original one Reroll tokens can also be used to improve weapon stats for more damage or bonuses Rerolled items are not listed in the menu of upgrade options however they can be upgraded By pressing the upgrade button you can recycle these rerolled items This will change the design of the items window and allow up to six items be chosen for recycling Recycling an item adds a small amount of points to its level gauge The amount is determined by the rarity of the item and its level which means items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than lowerlevel ones In addition to tokens for rerolls players can use Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the Weapon Traits of an upgraded unit Rerolls will roll a chance to determine a weapons trait If it is higher then the weapon is upgraded If it is lower the weapon remains unchanged Weapons can be upgraded up to three times Rerolls are a good option to upgrade an item but players should be aware that it will lower the overall ilvl of the weapon based on the number of rerolls required in order to increase it to the final level This reduction effect is most effective for Diadems and rings which have no alternatives to raise their ilvls Some players have complained that the reroll system is too expensive It would be fairer to allow players to pay for it with money or food items which would allow them to make changes to their builds without having to spend excessive amounts of time However paying for rerolls is not something that the developers would like to implement at this point in the games development Instead they plan to add an option to change the race in the future Leveling There are a variety of ways to level up an upgrade for an item The most effective method to level up an upgrade to an item is to increase the upgrade amount This increases the value of an upgrade for any stat The second is to boost the effect of an upgrade which increases the healing or damage of a specific stat The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type Once this is done the new item will maintain its iLevel but will be upgraded with the effects of the upgraded type of item It is crucial to remember that upgrades can be random In the majority of cases the chance of a better roll will result from glyphs however there are also chances for greater or special rolls The type of the item will determine the iLevel If you upgrade a unique or rare item to a special kind of item its likely to getting an upper level Upgrades to items can be costly particularly when youre upgrading a piece of equipment from the standard to legendary track The price will depend on the items base iLevel and the number of upgrade levels it offers In addition some upgrade tracks require crests in order to get to the next upgrade level If youre lucky your upgraded item will reach the highest level of its upgrade track and gain an additional bonus effect This will give you a substantial boost in the upgrade value of the item The bonus effect can change with each upgrade level though In general the effect of upgrading is increased a value of 3 upgrade item according to the upgrade path and base level For example an item that is upgraded from a rare or unique item to an outstanding one is likely to gain the Enhanced Defense of the new base item
