While the whole editorial staff contributed to our 2015 awards we wanted to allow everybody the opportunity to publicly name their personal top 10 games of the year While many did play the majority of releases in 2015 please remember that unlike our main awards the editors are not naming the best games but their personal favorites out of the selection they played 10 Code Name STEAM 3DS Intelligent Systems Nintendo Code Name STEAM is a remarkable game for a couple of reasons Its a turnbased strategy game set in a steam punk past the action is simple to understand and the storyline is unique As a special agent taking orders from the President of the United States is part of the job especially if those orders are to eradicate swarms of alien armies Combining characters from literary classics makes it an even more fantastical journey Its the kind of game youd usually see on PC which makes it being on the 3DS refreshing for fans of strategy games 9 Heroes of the Storm PC Blizzard Entertainment Combining characters across all of Blizzards properties made Storm of Heroes feel like the Smash Bros of MMO games Its a clever move on their part and one that I felt drew fans of yesteryear back to the good fight Warcraft Starcraft Diablo and more combine heroes and villains to bring a fullon war between factions The amazing promotional trailers made wanting to play Storm of Heroes even more enticing Even if youre terrible at MMO games you can still enjoy the sights and sounds of nostalgia in a new world 8 Citizens of Earth 3DS PC PS4 PSV Wii U Eden Industries Atlus On an Earth with fewer and fewer old school roleplaying games Citizens of Earth brought back the genre at least for me Comparing many of these games to Earthbound is pretty standard and Citizens of Earth compares pretty well The storyline cast of characters and writing are all hilarious Every situation you find yourself in is not only fun but the companions you encounter add to the games whacky antics Attacks and art style also come with a cheesy nature Its an allaround fun game to play and enjoyable just to watch 7 Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate 3DS Capcom Duking it out with gigantic creatures is great in any video game Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate came out last February and brought its massive monsters to the US One of the games biggest strengths is its diverse weaponry and armor you wear to hunt down big trophies Customizing yourself to fit the action is necessary in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and luckily theres enough to wear Even though your goal is to track down and kill the monsters it is amazing seeing how different they all are All the sizes colors and abilities make for a wild adventure 6 SteamWorld Heist 3DS PC PS4 PSV Wii U XBO Image and Form Another strategy game I played on my list is SteamWorld Heist and its a winner for me Understanding the gameplay is simple and the story jumped right into the action Exploring randomly generated ships and shooting it out with robots makes every stop along the way a true challenge The old west aesthetic and steampowered environment in SteamWorld Heist is pulled off much better than Wild Wild West Its almost the complete opposite of SteamWorld Dig but you could say SteamWorld Heist is a more grownup version in the series Its a game to both kill time and robots with 5 Pokémon Shuffle 3DS Mobile Genius Sonority Nintendo Pokémon is my absolute favorite franchise and it was very unfortunate there was no entry to the series this year However MOBA guides was wise enough to appease me by releasing something even if it was a puzzle game Pokémon Shuffle has been a game Ive constantly replayed Ive been enjoying it for over a year and I show no sign of stopping New levels are constantly being added and timed challenges keep it interesting Its perfect to play on the go and with it now on mobile devices I highly recommend giving it a play 4 Super Mario Maker Wii U Nintendo Mario is not only a staple in video game history he is THE pinnacle of the industry His games have defined what it means to be a video game But guess what I can make a video game too Super Mario Maker is a phenomenal concept that allows fans to bring to life their very own versions of the plumbers classic adventures Ive had tons of fun just imagining my own Mario levels and feeling like a real developer at Nintendo If only they could see my creationssigh Whatever Super Mario Maker is in fact a fantastic game despite all the extremely hard usercreated levels that Ive skipped over 3 Shovel Knight Plague of Shadows 3DS Wii U PS3 PS4 PSV XBO PC Yacht Club Games Shovel Knight was released back in 2014 but it just wasnt enough Luckily Yacht Club Games came out with a whole new storyline and adventure centered around Plague Knight with Shovel Knight Plague of Shadows In it were playing as one of the bad guys as we go off to do bad guy things but is Plague Knight really all that bad Hes definitely one of the most interesting characters in the game and ditching the shovel in favor of potions and explosives is a great change of pace Altering the story to fit Plague Knight is a great addition to the classic NESstyle platformer Playing through all the same levels were used to but as a different character bring a new perspective to the world We can only hope every knight will get their chance in the spotlight 2 YoKai Watch 3DS Level5 Nintendo Again Pokémon is my favorite series and without any title in 2015 I found YoKai Watch to be an excellent substitute Comparing the two is definitely easy but after playing YoKai Watch and watching the cartoon its worth noting YoKai Watch can stand on its own The mix of kooky characters is great and each one having its own personality makes the game a unique experience YoKai Watch is a wonderful RPG for those in search of something thats just plain fun I would consider this game as my best 3DS title of the year 1 Splatoon Wii U Nintendo I saved the best for last on this list While many folks pointed out Nintendos lack of original titles Splatoon made a splatastic debut and made up for the last few decades The cute colorful simple online shooter is a friendly way to introduce players to the genre Clever weapon designs and fresh gear to wear makes Splatoon a uniquely designed game Its not serious or violent like many others which appeals to players of all ages Friends parents kids and squids can all enjoy this game together and not have to yell or scream about campers Inking the entire level and fending off the other team is a big task but Nintendo made it enjoyable Plus you might run into a Squid Party and those are always fun to mess with Splatoon is my choice for best game of 2015
