World of Warcraft Item Upgrades Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item Depending on the type of upgrade you choose it can increase an items Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats Each item has a track for upgrading it Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount Item Level The value of an items basic stats increases when it is upgraded This value is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up attack magic attack and defense Upgrades can be expensive depending on who you hire and what you do This is due to the sheer number of perks that have to be altered to upgrade an item It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons raids and scenarios It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players can use since PvP is limited at a lower level The average level of the item can be found in the character sheet The level of an item can help players compare the potency of gear when they decide to buy or sell Its a useful gauge of an items worth and how much damage its able to deal Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done using the item level The level of the item can be checked by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick L3 on XB1 and PS4 The item will be displayed with its full description including the ilvl You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing itemlevel into chat There are a variety of theories on how the item level is determined One theory states that the item level is calculated by a formula that calculates the worth of an items stats actually are It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item This can result in a calculated items ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzards real item level However this is not the only factor that can affect an items ilvl since the size of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats for example by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating Items dropped in higherlevel instances will have a higher value Item Stats Item stats can make or break an item for players The game makes use of a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons and also to stop one weapon from being the best The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats These stat mods are then boosted by a players skill Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats on the item The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost For example a grey or white item will only be upgraded once whereas items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher costs Another method to alter the stats of an item is through affixes They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item The affixes could be used to give the item extra damage or add a unique capability to the item such as reviving dead or reducing cooldowns or make the item unique by adding an exclusive name to the item All affixes are currently rerolled by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options In addition to rerolling affixes players can also choose which of the available stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded The range of stats determined by the items level However every item will contain at least one stat within the same range unless its an exclusive item or a God Roll from a raid boss Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choose which stats to increase But as with base equipment this would need to be done on a peritem level and the item compare interface would not display all the possible stats gained or lost at once Item Luck The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the intensity of those properties It doesnt however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items It gives the player the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game item upgrader is especially advantageous in early game runs because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith This isnt to be confused with the Blacksmiths overall chances of upgrading which increase with each item level It is also possible to be increased by using antimaterials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing The shields armor and weapons have the default Luck value of 40 These items can be upgraded with golden ingots spined leather or oak boards depending on the material of the item to give 40 Luck or to increase the existing Luck of an item up to 140 Certain items like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by 5 These items are available from the shop or constructed using the right ingredients Item Failure Upgrades to items are expensive and not all upgrades will succeed However there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade fails When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials The probability of success can only be increased as much and the chance that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100 The success of an can be affected by the luck of the item All items have a success rate of 25 and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays the config option decorationrenderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config
