Recently I was in the area of Washington DC and happened to have the opportunity to speak with Senator Kent Chester of Kentucky regarding the current state of the auto insurance industry Senator Chester is a former Insurance commissioner of Kentucky who has written many articles on the subject He told me that the auto insurance industry had gotten to be an extremely large company and the regulations for insurance companies had been so lax that it had opened the door to fraud He was very concerned about what this meant to the states economy He was also concerned that the number of uninsured drivers in Kentucky was rising and he was concerned that this was a cause of the skyrocketing premiums Senator Kent Chester spoke very highly of Senator Jeff Sessions a wellknown conservative senator from Alabama and Senator Mike Lee a conservative from Utah Senator Sessions was asked what he thought about Senator Sessions becoming Attorney General Sessions was very complimentary of Sessions and said that Sessions has a good track record of prosecuting fraud As attorney general Senator Sessions will be able to use his experience as a prosecuting lawyer to bring charges against insurance companies The insurance industry will be put under great pressure and it is likely that they will fight the new laws tooth and nail This is not surprising However the question is will they be able to fight against the regulations that are being put in place by the new attorney general wrx sti insurance cost is very concerned about this and he stated that he would like for Sessions to get involved and help to bring down the industry Sessions is known for his tough stance on the auto industry He is known to have been one of the primary supporters of legislation that has severely limited the rights of consumers and drivers when it comes to auto insurance Senator Sessions is a big proponent of tort reform and if he is able to work his way up through the government system he may find himself working hand in hand with Jeff Sessions on the matter Jeff Sessions is known for his commitment to tort reform He is someone who is well versed in the ins and outs of the judicial branch and has the ability to effectively fight back when it comes to bringing down insurance companies He has proven to be successful on this front as a prosecutor in his home state and as a US Senator Kent Chester is right to be concerned If Jeff Sessions does succeed in bringing lawsuits against insurance companies he may become another enemy of the auto insurance industry The current attorney general Eric Holder is another strong advocate of the auto insurance industry but his tenure as attorney general is shortlived As soon as Jeff Sessions becomes attorney general we should find out if he is going to continue his efforts to regulate the insurance industry Whether he succeeds or fails it is clear that the auto insurance industry may face a challenge If Jeff Sessions does not succeed he could end up as a target of the political left With that said Jeff Sessions should not have to worry about being painted as a big oilie by the Obama administration It may not be the best optics but I think it is just as fair to say that Jeff Sessions has his own vision for the automotive industry and he does not want to see his vision stifled Perhaps the most important aspect that Jeff Sessions should consider in terms of his efforts is the fact that he can use these lawsuits to his advantage The new attorney general knows that he will have a tough time fighting the auto insurance industry and thus he may want to focus on the insurance companies that are responsible for bad policies as opposed to the ones that are responsible for good policies The point here we have a good chance of seeing Jeff Sessions brings down the industry as he works to bring down the bad guys While it is unclear exactly how Sessions is going to go about bringing down the insurance industry Senator Kent Sessions should do what he can to stop the lawsuits that are currently moving through the court system This is something that no one wants to see happen and it may make the auto insurance industry much harder to regulate If Sessions succeeds in bringing down these companies we are likely to see more of the same from the government when it comes to regulating the insurance industry
