World of Warcraft Item Upgrades The upgrade of an item can be used to boost the stats of an item Depending on the upgrade type it could increase an items Mark Level or Rarity and also boost other stats Each item has a track to upgrade it Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a set amount Item Level The value of an items stats base increases when it is upgraded This value is the total of all its upgraded advantages attack magic attack and defense Upgrading items can be expensive dependent on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to perform This is due to how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded Item level is a commonly used measure of power and can be seen on all tooltips of items It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can use as PvP is restricted at a lower level The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet Using the item level will allow players to compare the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell Its a useful indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage its able to deal Comparing items from a vendors stock can be done by using the item level The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick L3 on XB1 and PS4 The item will be displayed with its full description including the ilvl You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in itemlevel chat There are several theories about how the item level is determined One theory states that the level of an item is calculated using formulas that determine how valuable an items stats actually are It considers the fact that various perks have different value and also that gems in sockets add to the value of the item overall This process can result in a calculated amount for the items ilvl which is usually quite close to Blizzards real item level This isnt the only thing that affects the value of an item The degree of the area in which the item was dropped can alter its stats For example it can add a level to the items haste or crit score Items that drop in higherlevel instances will have higher ilvl Item Stats The stats of an item can make or break an item for players The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons and prevent one weapon from being the most effective The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats These stat mods are then increased by the players level The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats of the item The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item An item that is white or grey for instance will only be upgraded one time while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at higher prices Another method to alter the stats on an item is by affixing it They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item The affixes can be used to give the item additional damage add a special capability to the item such as reviving dead or reducing the cooldowns or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item At present all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circles arrows This will cost a specific amount in gold and items These can be used as upgrade gauges just like the other methods of rerolling Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll affixes The range of stats is determined by the items level However all items will have at least one stat in the range unless they are an exclusive item or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid This is another thing that can be modified by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase But like base equipment this would have to be done on a peritem level and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time Item Luck The Luck stat of a player boosts the chance of finding items the properties that are generated by loot and the strength of these properties It doesnt however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade item s It simply gives players a chance to upgrade their gear in earlier waves and is thus more valuable in early game runs than later ones because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain In addition to influencing the discovery of items Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith This should not be confused with the Blacksmiths overall upgrade probability which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced by using an antimaterial such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing The shields armor and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40 These items can be enhanced with golden ingots spined leather or oak boards depending on the material of the item to give 40 Luck or to increase the Luck of the item up to 140 Certain items like the Hollowinfused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent These items are available from the shop or they can be made using the correct ingredients Item Failure Upgrades to items are expensive and not all upgrades will succeed However there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop them from losing an item if the upgrade fails When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading that item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials There are limitations to how much the success rates can be improved and the chance of an upgrade failing cant exceed 100 The luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade All items have an initial success rate of 25 and every item with Luck increases that chance by five percent The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above items in the inventory This could block enchantment effects as well as other effects If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays the config option decorationrenderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config
